About bitchat

bitchat is a peer-to-peer messaging app built on decentralized Bluetooth mesh networking. Send and receive messages without internet, servers, or phone number registration — just activate Bluetooth and you're ready to communicate securely with nearby users.

No account needed, no data trails. Start messaging instantly without signing up, logging in, or sharing personal information. The app requires only Bluetooth to be active on your Android device; GPS location helps you discover other users in range. For the best experience, disable Battery Optimization so the mesh network runs continuously in the background.

Every message you send and receive is encrypted end-to-end and stored exclusively on your device and the recipient's. Nothing touches a server. Nothing gets backed up to the cloud. This means your conversations remain completely private — even if bitchat's servers were compromised (which they can't be, since they don't exist), your messages would still be safe. The same encryption applies to iOS users, so cross-platform chats are equally secure.

Take control of your conversations by creating password-protected channels. By default, you can message anyone in range, but you can restrict channels to specific people only. Block any user you wish to exclude. The app supports IRC-style commands, so if you've used traditional chat networks, the interface will feel familiar and intuitive.

Communicate offline where others can't. As long as Bluetooth is enabled, the mesh network keeps running even without an internet connection. This makes bitchat valuable for outdoor activities, travel, emergencies, or simply maintaining privacy in areas with spotty connectivity. Since the app is open source, you can inspect the code yourself and verify that encryption is genuine and no backdoors exist.

Download bitchat and join a network where your privacy is the default, not an afterthought. Requires Android 8.0 or higher.
